Our Humble Beginnings
On November 16th, 2015 Spark Electrician Services LLC is founded. The name was to be simple, one word drawing attention – “SPARK” followed by “ELECTRICIAN” – this is intentional… Not everyone with an electrical license is created equally. There’s a difference between providing electrical services and being TRUE ELECTRICIANS, Masters of our trade. Here at Spark, we professionally develop electricians…. Real technicians that understand electricity..
Fall 2015 Spark is a part time business with a full time vision. Justin, the founder is a brand new Master Electrician and Director of the Electrical Technology Program at Pinkerton Academy. Working at the school during the day, and serving the clients of Spark at night, on weekends, and during school vacations the word of top-notch service begins to spread.
Summer of 2017 Spark launches full time, Justin resigns from his teaching job at the school and takes with him Sparks oldest and original employee Alan Rendo as his apprentice. Alan and Justin keep delivering exceptional services. The phone continues to ring. Alan is working around the clock and for the first few years, he never had a lunch break…
Spring of 2018 Keith St. Laurent partners in as an owner, bringing 20+ years of experience and dozens of good industry contacts. To this day Keith and Justin remain best friends, and completely aligned with values, goals, visions, and the mission.
Keith and just shake hands and start with a simple plan – take care of people. That is our first mission statement. When we really take care of the customer, the customer takes care of us. Spark is gaining momentum and we will grow from one man and an apprentice working out of a garage to a 10 man shop in Londonderry by the end of 2018.
Winter of 2019 Spark and spark takes a hard loss on 2 big contracts payments, we are scrambling and re-organizing, Spark is now aiming exclusively at residential sales and service forgoing any and all contracting, to focus on cash-flow and recovery. Loaded with a new vision and a little wisdom, Spark downsizes to a 5 man shop specializing in the “white-glove” customer service experience and continuing to build a local business based on value…. Alan still has never had a lunch break.
Throughout 2019 Spark is regaining traction in a different type of company and quickly recovering from the year prior. Justin and Keith are working extensively with business coaches and the leading best practices firm for electrical services in the country. The owners begin to execute a well planned but aggressive growth track…
2020-2023 our office and warehouse staff positions are filled, we build a bigger organizational structure in the field and with 18-20 staff we execute our plan. From 2020 – 2023 grows an astounding 415%, adding key employees while strategically establishing a foundational footing for another carefully planned explosion of growth…..
2024… Alan finally takes a lunch break. Spark begins the climb toward the 35 employee business model.

Spark Electrical Heating and Cooling LLC was founded in 2015 by Justin Smith, with the addition of long time co-worker and friend Keith St. Laurent.
From our first day in business our mantra has always been quality over quantity. We take the utmost care in every project and work to complete each job efficiently, safely, and correctly. We will always be honest with you about what your options are and review all projects with you to be sure everything is completed to your complete satisfaction.
Who We Are
In 2015, Justin left his position as a controls foreman and became the Electrical Technology Program Instructor at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, the same program he grew up loving. Justin also founded Spark Electrician Services in 2015. The company was intended to be a part time job to supplement his teaching income so his wife, Jaime after surviving a hard year long battle with ovarian cancer, could be a stay-at-home mom. After selling his 401K savings for just over two thousand dollars to buy tools, and financing a used Uhaul van, Justin would work
afternoons, weekends, and school vacation weeks, as well as work full time through the summer vacation for the next 2 years straight.
Justin and Keith worked together on several side projects, all while still working full-time. The “side business” got busier and busier, so Justin left his job first in 2017 to pursue a career as a self-employed Master Electrician, taking with him his favorite apprentice and long time right-hand man Alan Rendo. Keith shortly followed, leaving his full time position at the control company and jumping into the business full time in 2018.
After working together day and night, the small company generated enough money to purchase a second work van, and rent a dirt-floor shop in the basement of a small office building in Derry. Today Spark has two brand new offices in Derry and Londonderry with 17-20 Employees and 12+ work trucks servicing 1700+ happy customers in Southern NH. Alan is now the lead service technician and preparing for a service manager role at Spark. Justin and Keith get to work on their favorite projects, and love to spend time with their crew teaching and molding tradesmen.
